I am curious as to what things will continue post quarantine! The creative way things are being done online now. It's sort of like a wake up call...like so many easy way to do thing that were never done before!
I am not saying I prefer online to in person- AT ALL. Of course I'd rather dance in the dance studio than my living room. But what I am saying is maybe since people are so used to it, it can be seen as a valid option if needed. So say you are learning a dance for a show, and the teacher wants to hold an extra practice or review but there isn't time-the idea of doing it over zoom will seem SO doable now, whereas before I think it would have been scoffed at.
I would sincerely like to express gratitude to all the people around the world who are giving their time for free to teach and share online. I think I am taking more ballet during quarantine than I did BEFORE haha! Also so many amazing organizations like
-Collectively Seeking Broadway
-NoMarking
-Broadway Weekends
-3d Theatrics
have all provided amazing workshops and interviews where I have got to learn from actors, directors, composers, dancers, that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to. This week I was on a zoom call with 5 Disney casting directors, ALAN MENKEN, I learned a dance from a broadway Newsies actor, voiceover workshop with a cartoon network and loony tunes voice over actress, and more! I ALSO reached out to a chorographer for Disneyland and asked her if she would teach a class over Zoom. She was happy to, she told me to recruit people.
So I started messaging dancer friends and got who I could-we had 6 people yesterday and she taught us a dance to "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin and it was honestly life. It was my soul food. I could do that all day everyday. And I know I am meant to. That is the place to be. I also know I manifested that opportunity. On the new moon at the end of March, I began a lunar cycle meditation with Ezzie Spencer where she has been doing an Instagram Live short meditation each day corresponding to the phases of the moon and how to work your intention with it. For me it was a general feeling that I set the intention for. I imagined waking up every day, and going to rehearsal in a Disney Studio to learn choreography for a parade or a show. The thought instantly softens my heart and makes me get teary eyed with tears of gratitude. It is ultimate bliss to me. Well here we are at about 3/4 moon and look what I did. Look what I experienced- the Disneyland choreographer in the flesh (well on the screen technically) but either way- the feeling that I IMAGINED is the feeling I had.
When I am doing that type of work, I feel like I have a never ending source of energy I can tap into. If I said I was tired, I then said to myself "So what! Those people out there have never been to Disneyland in their life and they deserve your full heart girl". As I imagine being on the castle stage and looking out on Main Street.
When I envision that- I always have energy for "one more time".
Here is part of the dance we learned!
XOXO
Annie
